43 lb HALIBUT WINS DERBY
We had a very good Halibut Derby. Anglers started their fishing under
grey skies that eventually broke to nice
sunshine and white clouds.
At
the weigh in docks there were lots of happy competitors and volunteers.
Anglers fished from kayaks, skiffs, sport fishers and a big comfy party
boat. While the picking's were slim smiling anglers lined up to
weigh in their catch of halibut or even a single rock fish, and share in
the fun and get a
picture with Deve McLaughlin, our Miss Halibut 2011.
First we need to thank all the anglers that participated in this Derby.
Thank You
Your participation funds our two important programs:
The MDR Youth Fishing Program takes disadvantaged kids fishing so
they can experience fishing, boating and the sea.
The MDR Fish Rearing Program with two in the water fish pens
raises white sea bass fingerlings up to juvenile sizes for release into the wild.

Well done and a hearty pat on the back to the leaders of this event.
Mr. Ken Raymond our MDR Halibut Derby Chairperson.
Mr. Bob Kissling, MDRA President and steadfast volunteer.
There are many other volunteers in support roles that helped us in so many
ways..
Thank you to you all, it was a group effort that made it happen.
We successfully raised
enough funds to cover the clubs charity needs. (That insurance policy
that the county makes us buy for the fish rearing pens is expensive!)
